Children start and end each day with their homeroom teacher. Morning routines for attendance and lunch choices happen with the homeroom teacher. End of the day rituals of packing up personal belongings and homework materials happen with the homeroom teacher. We spend a lot of time in the first few days and weeks of school reviewing routines and rituals to help each child master them early in the year. When these organizational and behavioral expectations are met children are more purposeful in building their class community, school community, and individual success in school.
Drinks: We do allow students to have water bottles during the school day. However, these must have pop-top covers for convenient drinking without concern for spilling. In other words if the cover needs to be removed in order to drink from it, the bottle cannot be used in the classroom. There is a safety concern about loose covers, as well as a concern that the drinks will spill. It is also important to clarify that the bottles are to contain only water.
Snack Time: The opportunity for a small healthy nutritious mid-morning snack continues in third grade. During this time children are working on academic assignments therefore it is important to be one small snack that can be enjoyed with their water.
Please review the Third Grade Expectations and Work Habits sheet that came home the first week of school. You will notice that this list coordinates with the daily calendar once it is incorporated. We hope that you regularly review these with your child as reminder of the expectations at school.
