Humanities Learning with Mrs. Friedland
We have a new ELA (English Language Arts) series called ReadyGEN. As noted on their website, ReadyGEN is an integrated and well-balanced approach to reading and writing instruction for grades K-6 classrooms. Authentic texts with modeling and teacher-directed activities drive learning and motivate readers. Instruction focuses on reading, writing, speaking, and listening in response to authentic texts. In social studies we will be exploring Massachusetts, the little state with the big name! Our primary text is The Massachusetts Story by Gibbs Smith.
Homework
Studies have shown that daily reading aids in comprehension, fluency, and vocabulary development. I ask that your child read at least 30 minutes a day. This can be independent, with someone, or to someone as long as the book holds their interest and is at an appropriate level. All assignments will be noted in your child’s agenda; please check it daily. I also ask that you sign the agenda as a form of daily communication with me. Although simple, this task lets your child know that we are working together to help them do their best in school.
